Have you seen descriptions of toys which say one of the focuses is spatial awareness? Every wonder what this is exactly? When I first saw this on a toy, I wondered what it was and how it worked. So, I looked up the definition.
Spatial awareness is the ability to see and understand two or more objects in relation to each other and to one's body in terms of space and distance. It's also understanding the relationship of objects when there is a position change including rotation.
Spatial awareness is a complex cognitive skill that kids develop at an early age through play with 3D toys as opposed to 2D electronic, computerized items. There are many toys available that fall into this category.
Below are some pictures of spatial toys. You may recognize them, or already have them for your child. Comments are always welcome.
